Ethnic performances and foods highlight celebration of diversity

3/15/11 The Savannah College of Art and Design presents the 13th annual International Festival Saturday, April 2, 11 a.m. to 3 p.m., on Broughton Street between Lincoln and Abercorn streets in Savannah. The event is free and open to the public.

The International Festival features traditional music, dance, art and food to celebrate the diversity of SCAD’s international arts community. Among the festival highlights are performances by Grupo Kachimbos de Savannah, Mystik NRG, and DJ Omar Richardson. Other events include appearances by SCAD's Global Fashion Showcase, The Irish Dancers of Savannah, traditional Peruvian Folklore dance, Korean Pop dance, and Tibetan Plateau dance. Arts and crafts will be available for purchase.

Visitors also have the chance to taste cuisine from around the world. Participating restaurants providing samples for a minimal cost include Casbah Moroccan Restaurant, Carlito’s Mexican Restaurant, Middle Eastern Cuisine, Ruan Thai and Taste of India.

The festival is sponsored by SCAD’s international student services office, the Intercultural Student Association, Coca-Cola, T.W. Lord Associates, Bahama Joes, Allied Barton, Sodexho and ISA. Media may call 912.525.5210 for interview and image requests.
