Center for Puppetry Arts Announces 2011-12 Performance Season

Imaginative Voyage through the World of Puppetry Brings Returning Favorites and New Adventures

Center for Puppetry Arts® is pleased to announce the upcoming 2011-2012 season, a journey for the imagination that will allow patrons to travel from the Big Top to Neverland with stops along the way in ancient China, Sleepy Hollow, the North Pole, outer space and the local grocery store. In addition to shows by the Center Company, Center for Puppetry Arts is proud to remain a destination for touring puppetry groups this season, hosting artists from across the US.

Highlights from the upcoming Family Series include the high-flying production of Artistic Director Jon Ludwig’s Cinderella Della Circus, and the inspiring and adorable tale of The Ugly Duckling adapted by Artistic Associate Michael Haverty.

The faithful adaptation of holiday-favorite Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer is back after its fully sold-out first run. Tickets are already selling and are anticipated to sell out quickly. Then, off at the edges of the galaxy, Jon Ludwig’s SPACE! will provide audiences with an out-of-this-world performance, sure to delight and educate audiences young and old.

Also returning to Center for Puppetry Arts as part of the fun-filled season is Adventures of Little Noodle, the interactive and exciting performance that promotes healthy choices and loving yourself. The Family Series will end with a bang, as Peter Pan makes its debut in this new musical adaptation by Michael Haverty. Based on J M Barrie’s book, the Center’s production will give a steampunk twist to the classic adventure full of pirates, Lost Boys, mermaids and much more.

The Teen & Adult Series features programming intended for older audiences (age recommendations below). This Halloween, The Ghastly Dreadfuls will return for more macabre amusement and in the spring, Xperimental Puppetry Theater (XPT) will unite artists of all disciplines, joining forces to create bold and original experiments in puppetry for adult audiences.

In February 2012, the Center will partner with local author Calvin Alexander Ramsey to produce the world premiere adaptation of his award-winning children’s book, Ruth and the Green Book, which tells the remarkable story of a young African-American girl and her family navigating the highways and byways of Jim Crow-era America using “The Negro Motorist Green Book.”
