Travelin' Black Makes its World Premier at Theatrical Outfit Mar 16 - Apr 10

BeadRoom.com

3/9/11 Theatrical Outfit presents the brand new musical Travelin’ Black, a celebration of how dance and music have initiated and sustained the journey of African Americans through time and place and how these creative gifts have empowered them to change the world for the better. Travelin’ Black is conceived, choreographed and directed by Patdro Harris, written by Patdro Harris and S. Renee Clark, with original music and musical direction by S. Renee Clark.

As a director, Harris has worked at such distinguished theaters as The Alliance Theater Company, Sacramento Theatre Company, Round House Theater, San Diego Repertory Theater Company, True Colors Theater Company, and Tribeca Performing Arts Center. He also has served as choreographer, artistic consultant and movement director with the Oregon Shakespeare Festival, The Kennedy Center, Studio Theatre D.C., the Guthrie Theater, and Broadway’s Royal Theatre. For years, Harris has traveled the world as choreographer and lead dancer for the incomparable Stevie Wonder, and he choreographed the Tony Award-winning Broadway hit A Raisin in the Sun starring Sean Combs and Phylicia Rashad, as well as its television movie adaptation.

Co-creator and musical director S. Renee Clark’s theater credits include Theatrical Outfit’s Big River, Gee’s Bend, Waiting To Be Invited, Ain’t Misbehavin,’ and Mahlia, as well as The Alliance Theatre’s Jesus Christ Superstar Gospel, Jaques Brel, and Avenue X. She has worked with the American Shakespeare Company, The Center for Puppetry Arts, Metro Stage, and Lorraine Hansberry Theatre.

The Travelin’ Black cast includes T. Renee Crutcher, Gavin Gregory, Thomas Hamilton, Ursula Kendall Johnson, Eric Moore, Adrienne Reynolds and Sheila Wheat. Band members are Chris Burroughs (drums), Charles Marshall (saxophone), Peter Moore (guitar), and Ramone Pooser (Bass).
